Friday Family Film Night: UNPREGNANT review

In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing UNPREGNANT (2020), which is currently streaming on HBO Max. The film, based on the book by Jenni Hendriks and Ted Caplan, with screenplay credits to Jenni Hendriks,Ted Caplan,Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Rachel Lee Goldenberg andBill Parker, is directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg. The story follows Veronica (Haley Lu Richardson) an ambitious teenager whose life is thrown into chaos when she discovers she is pregnant. With no one else to turn to, she asks an estranged friend from her childhood, Bailey (Barbie Ferreira) to help her make the trip across state lines to get an abortion 900+ miles away. Along the way, their time together brings them closer but also discoveries are made that drive them apart. Will Veronica make her appointment and get her procedure? Will Bailey still be there to bail her out? Not a perfect film but really enjoyable and a film thatcan be thecatalyst to open up dialog with the young people in your life, especially after today’s disastrousnews of the SCOTUS overturning Roe v. Wade. The film has a run time of 1 h 43 m, and is rated PG-13. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
