In which the Mister joins me in reviewing THE WOMAN KING (2022), currently still in theaters but also streaming on Netflix and to buy/rent on other platforms. The film is loosely based on true events and comes from a story by Dana Stevens and Maria Bello, from Dana Stevens’ screenplay and is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. The story revolves around the Agojie women warriors of Dahomey in the early 1800s in Western Africa. In particular we come to know General Nanisca (Viola Davis) the fearless leader as she embarks on training and molding the new soldiers rising in the ranks to become part of the next generation of warriors tasked with protecting the King (John Boyega) and the people against enemy nations and European slave traders. The film has a run time of 2 h and 15 m and is rated PG-13. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
