Friday Family Film Night: THE NORTHMAN review

In which the Mister joins me in reviewing THE NORTHMAN (2022), which is currently streaming on Peacock or to rent/buy on Prime. The film, directed by Robert Eggers, from a script by Sjón and Robert Eggers, and follows the story of a young Viking prince, Amleth (played as a child by Oscar Novak and as an adult by Alexander Skarsgård), who witnesses his father, King Aurvandil War-Raven’s brutal murder at the hands of his own brother,Fjölnir the Brotherless. He goes back to his village and witnesses his Uncle’s men grabbing his mother as others are charged with hunting him down to murder him. He makeshis way to the water and steals away on a boat and makes a vow to avenge his father (played by Ethan Hawke), save his mother (played by Nicole Kidman) and kill his Uncle (played by Claes Bang). Gorgeous cinematography and solid performances bumped up our rating for this film but it’slong and takes a long time to get to where it ultimately goes. This may not be for everyone but we encourage everyone togive the film achance. The film has a run time of 2 h 17 m and is rated R. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
