Friday Family Film Night: THE LAST DUEL review

In which the Mister joins me in reviewing THE LAST DUEL (2021), which is currently streaming on HBO Max and based on the book by Eric Jager that follows the story of the last trial by combat in the Middle Ages. With screenplay credits toNicole Holofcener,Ben Affleck andMatt Damon anddirected by Ridley Scott; the film follows the true events thattranspired between two friends,Sir Jean de Carrouges(Matt Damon) andJacques Le Gris(Adam Driver) who become more and more estranged and ultimately sever all ties after Jean’s wife, Marguerite (Jodie Comer) accusesJacques of raping her. The story is told from all three characters point of view without much variation whichmakes some of the film extremely tedious. Good set design and cinematography help but not enough to make up for the misplaced storytelling device. The film has a run time of 2 h 32 m and is rated R. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
