In which the Mister joins me in reviewing OKJA (2017), a Netflix original film by director Bong Joon Ho with writing credits to Bong Joon Ho and Jon Ronson. The story follows Mija (Seo-hyun Ahn) and her genetically modified super pig friend, Okja. For ten years the 2 have grown up and formed a loving bond. Okja, unfortunately is the property of Mirando Corporation and after ten years the company has decided to come collect their prized pigs. Mija’s grandfather gives her a golden pig to ease the loss of Okja but she is compelled to go save her pig and friend. And what follows is a breathtakingly beautiful story that is rooted in Mija and Okja’s love for each other but also addresses topics like the meat industry, genetically modified foods and corporate greed. An absolute MUST WATCH. The film has a run time of 2 h and is rated TV-MA. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
