Friday Family Film Night: MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON review

In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON (2021) which is currently available on Showtime. With a screenplay by JennySlate and Dean Fleischer Camp and directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the film follows the story of Dean (Dean Fleischer Camp) who happens upon Marcel (Jenny Slate) and his Grandma Connie (Isabella Rossellini) in the AirBnB he’s staying at after his relationship falls apart. In abid to distract himself from his own heartache, Dean decides to do a small documentary about Marcel and gets swept up in Marcel’s sweetness and simplicity. Marcel explains how some years ago hiscommunity of family and neighbors disappeared after theman and woman who were previously living in the house broke up. After posting the videos on YouTube, Marcel garners national attention and his quest to find his family seems almost attainable. The film is rated PG and clocks in at 1 h 3 m.
