In which the Mister joins me in reviewing DONNIE DARKO (2001), currently available on Max and Prime Video. Written and directed by Richard Kelly, the film casts Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie), Mary McDonnell (his mom, Rose), Jena Malone (Gretchen) and James Duval (Frank), among its stars. The story follows a young man named Donnie, whose perchance for sleepwalking makes him miss a freak accident that would have ended his life. What follows next are a few weeks in his life where his visions of a large rabbit named Frank, who informs him that the world will end in 28 days and propels him to take on some assigned tasks. Shout out to Ian from the film discussion group for putting this title up – a great rewatch and a definite RECOMMEND. The film has a run time of 1 h and 36m and is rated PG-13.
