In which the Mister joins me in reviewing BEAU IS AFRAID (2023), which is still in theaters but also to buy/rent off Prime Video. This is written and directed by Ari Aster and tells the story of Beau (an exceptional Joaquin Phoenix), a man who finds out that his mother (an absolutely baller (PattiLuPone) has tragically suddenly died. A mild-mannered and meak man, Beau must overcome his debilitating anxiety and make his way home for her funeral. Along the way, he has a few experiences at the house of a couple and some travelers in the forest before ultimately making his way back home. Much like Aster’s other films, this story has many layers to it and demands an attentive audience. This will not be a film for everyone but for those who put in the time and effort, I promise you will not be disappointed. The film has a run time of 2 h and 59 m is rated R. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
