Day 35 of 365 Days of Gratitude

Today I am grateful for Suzy. She was one of my favorite friends in high school and through the power of social media we were able to reconnect and I am honored to say one of my oldest friends. I don’t see her as much as I’d like to but with age, spouses, work and children; a lot of socialization is abandoned. I always appreciated that she was a straight shooter and she wasn’t the type of friend who would not tell you exactly how it was. I think these are the best kinds of friends – I would rather the poison barb of honesty to my face than the sugar coated, saccharine sweetness of a false “friend” who is really plunging the blade deep in my back. I know dramatic but that’s how I remember high school – high drama of the first order. And I guess when you’re that young, trapped between childhood and adulthood; everything is so big and over the top.

I miss the silly friendship of our youth but am grateful for this new phase of friendship where honesty is still the order of the day and camaraderie and sisterhood still hold weight and importance. Today is a very special day and I hope that God/Allah/Michelle Obama always bless her and hers and that they always make sure she has an abundance of all the good things in life.
