Today on CBS Sunday Morning they did a report on Geena Davis and of course that led me to THELMA & LOUISE which was such a groundbreaking film in 1991. It doesn’t feel like it was so long ago and yet its been 30 years since that movie premiered. Its madness how time flies but this movie was a turning point in movies with strong female leads and from the female perspective. There have been other films but this one was the first in a long while where the men weren’t really the focal point and the exploration of female relationships. Both characters were strong and authentic voices and even though it’s a “sad” ending there was also satisfying in that they both chose their own fate and went out on their own terms.
