I forgot to post yesterday because adulting got in the way but we watched BLACK WIDOW and I enjoyed it. I need to come clean and say I am not a fan of the main actress – she’s said things I find problematic and seems to lack the ability to put herself in any other position other than her own. I know GHOST WORLD was a critical success and the springboard for her career but I remember going to see it in the theaters and not being terribly impressed with it or her. I don’t go out of my way to see her movies but since she is part of the MCU I have seen more of that part of her career of late. Although I did see JOJO RABBT and loved it and was surprised at liking her character so much but to me its because she understands the job and is a decent actress. But I think the magic of JOJO is more the story itself and the script – something I am always saying: without a good script, there is nothing really.

But getting back to BW, its a good, solid action piece with great cinematography, FX, performances, locales. A good script is the backbone here and even with the non stop action, there are strong character moments and humor sprinkled in.

As I get older, I am trying to be more authentic and an example to my kids so I have higher standards than when I wasn’t a parent. But I think what my husband said also rings true – this movie is more than the lead actress with the problematic sound bytes. So kudos to the scriptwriters, the director, the sound mixers/editors, the camera crew, art directors, FX teams and even accounting and kraft services – a job well done by all and many thanks!
