Today is an ode to kickass women role models. I am a huge fan of the Sunday Morning Talk Shows – if only to yell at my TV screen about the disingenuousness of these politicians – mama mia! A few years ago Margaret Brennan took over the desk at CBS’s FACE THE NATION and I really feel like she is a force to be reckoned with. I always try to get my daughters to watch with me but they would rather watch the same GUMBALL episode for the thousandth time (don’t get me wrong – THE AMAZING WORLD OF GUMBALL is top notch entertainment) so I have to console myself with the husband’s company on the couch.
Last week was a very heartbreaking, frustrating, surreal and dangerous week for our country. The divisions we have seen fostered and nurtured by this past presidency have hit a fever pitch and I do not believe we are out of the woods – not by a long shot.
However, my gratitude is that Margaret is a consummate professional, grilling everyone equally and often times shutting down nonsense. I missed the first few minutes of today’s broadcast but I saw her ask the Missouri senator and Delaware senator on the events of last week’s attack on the Capitol Building in DC. She spoke with the Mayor of DC and again the argument of statehood for DC seems valid and fair. She let Chris Krebs weigh in, had some excellent Q&A with John Dickerson and capped with a lovely opinion piece from Bob Schieffer.
Margaret is elegant and well spoken, having been entrenched in the DC news politics scene for some time. Her questions are fair and sometimes harsh but this is what you want from a journalist – one who will pursue the truth and not merely offer up sugar coated sound bits that will appease certain folks. She’s very intelligent and strategic in her line of questioning – sadly most of these politicians are spineless and dance around their answers like Muhammad Ali danced around opponents in the ring. To me she is brave and amazing and always a treat to watch.

I urge anyone looking for strong female voices and role models for their own daughters to give Margaret a go. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
